Similar terms with the same meaning are not treated the same

I am a project manager and an agile product owner. Each of these has many synonyms and many facets. I pulled up a job description where I am a very good match, but because of the exact match nature of this tool, it tells me I am only a 17% match. Looking at the mismatches, it is because I have similar words or concepts in my resume and the tool doesn't recognize that the meaning is the same.
Examples-
Project Manager, project management, project planning
Note- This would be a much smaller issue if the key attributes pulled out of the job description were better.
Examples-
"Risk Management" is a category of work, not a specific practice or set of practices that someone can reasonably claim proficiency at.

Puneet-
So why not develop additional modes- ATS mode for what you currently have an when resume suggestions are sought after and something smarter for telling candidates whether or not they are a good match for a role. Seems like it would be very valuable to highlight roles to candidates that they can perform, but their resumes aren't good matches for.
With the current function, having it tell me that I'm a 17% or 25% match for a role exactly like what I have done before detracts from the credibility of the tool and the process rather than helping uncover opportunities that might otherwise be overlooked.
Thanks,
Bryce

Hey Bryce Christensen, this is intentional and mirrors how most traditional ATS run keyword searching/filters

More examples-
"Risk Management" isn't matched up with "identifying unknowns, risks, and opportunities" or "Unknowns are identified and resolved".
Performance management isn't matched up with "ensure proper metrics and documentation are captured".
